Encyclopedia of Religion by Mircea Eliade (Editor); Charles J. Adams (Editor)
Young, editor of An Anthology of Sacred Texts By and About Women (Crossroad, 1993), has produced a monumental work containing more than 600 articles and more than 300 photographs with information about women in relation to most of the world's religions past and present, with emphasis on the major religions. The list of contributors, female and male, including some international scholars, is extensive and impressive. Though cross-referencing could be stronger, almost everything this reviewer sought appeared either as an article or a cross reference. The articles are concise and evenhanded, providing brief critiques of scholarship and concluding with well-chosen bibliographies. Accessible to the general reader and a useful initial reference for academics, religious professionals, and seekers, these unique volumes are essential for all libraries.ÄCarolyn M.
