Peacock In The Quantum Revolution, part of the "Greenwood Guides to Great Ideas in Science" series, Peacock (Univ. of Lethbridge, Alberta) provides a good but brief historical overview of the development of quantum theory from about 1875 through the present, covering the work of such greats as Planck, Einstein, and Bohr. Although not developed as a textbook (there are no questions at the end of each chapter), this book could support a nonphysics major taking an introductory physics class. The smattering of figures and diagrams nicely supports the content. Undergraduates might find the time line and the glossary useful to help them understand some of the basic concepts. Since none of the chapters have specific references as endnotes and there is not much mathematical explication, this reviewer doubts that the work will be useful for graduate students. The author provides a small set of references at the end of the book and numerous sources for further reading. This delightful volume should be on the shelf of just about every undergraduate library; hopefully, students will find it and give it a read. A well-constructed index is included.
